The sea holds no mysteries; it invites us to its beautiful beaches and asks us to preserve them. Then, it gifts us with shields of a complex and unique aesthetic: Odissea's jewelry.

Nathalie Martínez, a Mexican multidisciplinary artist in New York, is connected to the gifts of the sea. Her beach searches turn into a triumphant journey that enriches Odissea's catalog, as she discovers shells that blend sizes, colors, and styles, radiating incomparable beauty. The waves come and go, leaving treasures in her hands.

Her artistic process is a deep journey of creativity and craftsmanship, immersing herself in her connection with the sea to create meticulous Odissea jewelry pieces. Inspired by the vastness of the ocean and the delicacy of seashells, her designs capture wonder and elegance.

With a keen eye for details and an ability to uncover the hidden beauty in the gifts of the sea and the bay, Nathalie selects shells that evoke a unique enchantment. Through her artistic vision and ancestral goldsmithing techniques in Taxco, Mexico, each Odissea creation becomes wearable art, radiating timeless allure.

Her jewelry transcends the ordinary, transforming shells into extraordinary treasures that resonate with those who wear them. It's as if the sea, finally, found the clearest way to communicate through Odissea.

INTERVIEWER

What is the hardest shell to find?

Nathalie Martinez

There’s no particular shell that I look for when going to the beach for my chill supply. I like to see all the different styles, shapes and colors, its mind blowing! I have always been drawn to shells but specially when I started Odissea, picking different styles made me recognize them easier and also identify similarities. In such a world, there are so many, but the most fascinating part is how they are composed. I absolutely love shells more, as I learn more.

What do you think about Ocean Clean Up?

Nathalie Martinez

I think this is so important. There’s no vacation, when I go to the beach and its heartbreaking to see trash afloat or by the beach but I think people are being more conscious about this problem. The more we educate everyone about this subject the more of an impactful outcome we can have. I actually have a friend who started @litterrally, an initiative that would gather people to to pick up trash. They first started in the streets of NY and then began organizing groups to go to the beach.

Is there any other language you wish you could speak?

Nathalie Martinez

I wish I spoke French better, I used to talk really well but after not practicing I have forgotten most of it. But if I had to start from zero I think I would like to speak German. Despite being super harsh, my background is German and when hearing people talk I find it fascinating how complex it sounds. Or maybe Italian!

As a multidisciplinary artist endowed with innate harmony, Nathalie Martínez not only crafts exceptional jewelry for Odissea but also shares her skill through captivating collages. On Odissea's official Instagram account, her distinctive approach shines: a model wearing a pink jacket with blue stripes elegantly merges with earrings from the Nekyia collection. This masterful touch captivates the viewer's gaze and becomes one of the primary reasons why Odissea has carved a unique path over four years.

Reflecting on Odissea's remarkable four-year journey, Nathalie Martínez remains amazed by the brand's growth and the connections it has cultivated with kindred artists. Her vision, fueled by an appreciation for the imperceptible beauty in asymmetrical earrings, has organically transformed shells into captivating treasures. With gratitude for fellow companions on this journey, Nathalie's artistic voyage continues to inspire us to embrace the hidden beauty that lies in the interplay of art and nature.
